Shona Sculpture (verdite)
The contemporary style of Shona sculpture can be attributed to Frank McEwan, who encouraged the creation of stone works for export during the 1960s. Shona sculptors take great pride in releasing the soul held within the rock as they carve the layers away. Shona sculptures from Zimbabwe created from the prestigious class of green stone called Verdite.
