Ambo (Ovambo) Fertility Doll on Custom Base Namibia

A superb doll from the Ambo (Ovambo) from Namibia.

Ambo dolls are very rare to find. And the ones of high quality like this offered doll are extremely rare. Made in wood, this doll in cylindric shape has its body wrapped with strands of beads with variety of elements attached to these strands. In addition to the beads, the bottom of the body is wrapped with leather strips. There are strands of beads in the place of hairstyle. Indeed, an elaborate doll richly decorated !

Formally, Ambo dolls are very close to the Suto dolls from Botswana.

The offered doll shows much handling and significant age. It will add a unique piece in any collection.

The gender of the doll is unclear.
