The Baga have resided in their present location since the 14th century, migrating there from the interior highlands alongside similar linguistic groups like the Landuma, Tyapi, and Temne peoples. Throughout history, they faced invasions from various groups including the Nalu, Susu, Djalonke, Maninka, and Fulbe up until the early 20th century. French dominance in the late 19th century led to colonization. Post-independence, many Baga have shifted away from certain traditional practices in favor of embracing Guinean nationalism.
