Description
One of the most common musical instruments found among various people of Burkina Faso and Mali is the top-blown whistle or flute. Flutes are widely traded and therefore often difficult to attribute to one group or another. This example is attributed to the Bamana. This is a well-used example of the wear around the mouthpiece and on the surface. Used by groups of young initiates or senior male members of society they accompany ceremonies in close association with local languages which are tonal and match language patterns.
