Bamana Wooden Bow Mali 55inch MATTER COLLECTION
Width: 0.75
Depth: 5.5
Description
Traditional hand-carved wooden bow attributed to the Bamana (Bambara) people of Mali. Measuring approximately 55 inches in length, this elegant piece features a gently curved form characteristic of indigenous archery traditions practiced throughout West Africa. Crafted from a single piece of wood, the bow displays a rich patina and signs of age and use that contribute to its character.
The Bamana are one of Mali's largest cultural groups and have a long history rooted in agriculture, hunting, and warrior traditions. Bows such as this were practical tools used for hunting and protection and today are appreciated for their craftsmanship and connection to traditional West African lifeways. The piece serves as an attractive example of African material culture and would make a distinctive addition to a collection of ethnographic art or traditional weaponry
