Description
Large Central African Iron Spear with Broad Blade and Iron Butt Spike, Congo Region
Impressive African spear featuring a large, hand-forged iron blade mounted on a long wooden shaft. The exceptionally broad blade measures approximately 6.5 inches at its widest point and tapers dramatically toward a pointed tip. Its lower portion is characterized by distinctive rounded, wing-like projections that give the blade a particularly striking silhouette.
The spear is further distinguished by an iron butt spike at the opposite end of the wooden shaft, a feature found on documented Central African spears from the Congo region. The combination of a substantial iron blade, long wooden shaft, and iron butt spike is particularly characteristic of Congo-region spear forms.
The iron blade displays extensive natural oxidation, surface variation, and aged patination, with visible marks consistent with traditional hand forging. The long wooden shaft exhibits an appropriately aged and weathered appearance.
Measuring approximately 70 inches overall, this is a dramatic example of traditional Central African ironwork and weaponry. The form is consistent with spear traditions of the Congo region, although a more specific ethnic attribution cannot be confirmed without provenance.
Materials are Hand-forged iron and wood.
Aged condition with natural oxidation, surface rust, patination, and wear to the iron blade and butt spike, together with age-related wear and weathering to the wooden shaft. Please review photographs carefully for condition details.
Blade approximately 6.5" at widest point.
Middle nail could be removed to allow for cheaper shipping, as it is currently very tall - please enquire regarding that option.
