Description
These clay figures used in connection with funeral ceremonies have been found mainly in Akan-speaking areas where they are still made to represent the dead: usually chiefs, queens, other members of a royal family and their retinue, and the other important people in the community.
They are not themselves objects for worship but are considered as portraits of the deceased. Thus they are meant to show some of the characteristic features of the dead person.
