Created by skilled artists in secrecy, these sculptures were occasionally revealed in ceremonies, granting social prestige to the commissioner. The Dan, part of the Mande-speaking community, originated from Mali, residing in forested areas of Liberia, Guinea, and Cote d'Ivoire.
