This stunning Kulango Mask from Côte d'Ivoire is hand-carved from a single piece of wood, boasting intricate geometric shapes along the sides of the mask and striking horns on top. Darkened with pigment, the carved wood detailing is adorned with kaolin coloring.
The Kulango people reside in a region bordering Burkina Faso and Ghana in Côte d’Ivoire. Their artistic creations are notably influenced by neighboring tribes, particularly the Baule. Despite limited knowledge about the Kulango, their artwork is both rare and highly coveted. The diverse art of the Kulango captivates with its intriguing and enigmatic nature.
