The Bunda people, alternatively known as Ambuun or Mbuun, constitute an ethnic group primarily residing in the Idiofa Territory within the Kwilu District of Bandundu Province, located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their cultural identity is deeply rooted in this region, where they have established their communities and traditions over generations.

The Bunda people predominantly communicate through the Mpuono language, which serves as a linguistic cornerstone of their cultural heritage. As of 1972, an estimated 165,000 individuals were speakers of the Mpuono language, indicating its significant role in facilitating communication and preserving cultural ties within the Bunda community.
