"Many years ago Jay and I dreamed about creating a book which would tell the story of a young girl's struggle to save a fragile desert canyon from development. It will not be a surprise to those of you who know me that this canyon is also a special place to the Native Americans and the many species who call it home whether they swim, or fly, or crawl, or run.

The making of this book has been a family affair for us, along with our friend Elise Maclay. Part coming-of-age, part call for environmental action, I hope you'll find it a book with an important message for everyone in your family.
