Description
This Handmade corn husk mother and child from Zimbabwe depicts a working mother carrying her child and a load of wood. Made from dried corn husks, this doll also symbolizes fertility and showcases the special bond between a mother and child.
In Zimbabwe all parts of the corn ear are utilized. The husks can be woven into ropes and twine, and molded into containers and mats. Shredded husks are used for kindling and stuffing, and when soaked in water, the brittle dried cornhusks become soft and malleable to be transformed into durable dolls suitable for children's toys.
This one-of-a-kind figurine is ethically and sustainably crafted by skilled Shona artisans.
