The Dinka people (Dinka: Jiɛ̈ɛ̈ŋ) are a Nilotic ethnic group indigenous to South Sudan. They primarily inhabit the Nile River basin, stretching from Mangalla through Bor to Renk, as well as the regions of Bahr el Ghazal and Upper Nile, and the Abyei area traditionally associated with the Ngok Dinka.

The Dinka people are a herding Nilotic group that moves according to the seasons in search of water and grazing land. Their lifestyle is reflected in their art, as they excelled in the production of smaller objects that are easier to carry, such as stools and headrests. In most cases, their sculptures are made out of a single piece of wood.
