Dinka Male Figural Pipe On Custom Base Congo
Width: 10
Depth: 3.5
Description
Hand-carved male figural pipe by the nomadic Dinka people of northwestern Congo, Western Ethiopia, Southern Uganda, Kenya, and northern Tanzania. This is a male figurine with metal inlay and copper smoke shaft. It comes attached to a custom base.
The Dinka people are a herder Nilotic group that move according to the seasons in search of water and grazing land. Their lifestyle is reflected in their art as they excelled in crafting smaller objects that are easier to carry such as stools, and headrests. In most cases, their sculptures are made from a singular piece of wood.
