Dogon Binu Dugu Brass Necklace and Bracelet Mali in Shadow Box Display
Description
Dogon Binu Dugu Necklace – Sangha, Mali (Shadow Box Display)
This striking Dogon Binu Dugu necklace and bracelet set originates from the Sangha region of Mali and reflects the rich spiritual traditions of the Dogon people. Traditionally worn during important ceremonial occasions, necklaces of this type were associated with the Binu cult, a religious system centered on ancestral veneration and the protection of the community.
The necklace features a series of symbolic elements that embody Dogon artistic expression and spiritual beliefs. Over time, the piece has developed a beautiful aged patina, highlighting its authenticity and long history of use. Mounted within a custom shadow box, the necklace and bracelet are both preserved and elegantly presented, making it an exceptional display piece for collectors of African art and ethnographic material. The stones attached to the chain are duge, which symbolize the bones of ancestors and the creator God's egg from which the world was created. The stones are retrieved from caves where ancestors were buried. Probably dating from the early 20th century.
Whether appreciated for its cultural significance, craftsmanship, or visual impact, this rare Dogon ceremonial necklace set offers a tangible connection to one of West Africa's most celebrated artistic traditions.
