The Hemba people originated from the southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and were known to have migrated from the northeast in the late 16th century. Their artistry is known for its distinctive carved wooden warrior figures, and elongated proportions, balance, symmetry, and detailed depictions of facial scarification.
