Indonesian Feather Glass Trade Beads MATTER COLLECTION
Description
Indonesian Feather glass beads — modern handmade beads inspired by older Venetian trade beads.
A strand of handmade Indonesian glass beads inspired by Venetian trade beads. The style references antique Venetian lampwork trade beads produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which were widely traded around the world, particularly in Africa. Modern Indonesian bead makers have continued the tradition by creating contemporary versions with similar patterns and vibrant colors.
Each bead is individually crafted, resulting in subtle variations that add character and authenticity to the strand.
Provenance: Matter Collection
From the collection of Margie and Phil Matter. Margie lived in South Africa, and later she and her husband Phil opened a gallery in Tucson. Everything in this collection was in their home for more than thirty years. Africa Direct recently bought the collection; at 95, Margie wants to share the things she has loved so much.
This strand is not intended to be a ready-to-wear necklace. Although the strand can be worn "as is," the string holding it together is not durable and may break with wear. For this reason, we recommend that you restring the beads before wearing them.
