Kuba Pillow Case Textile Congo 17x17inch
Width: 16.75
Description
This handwoven Kuba textile pillowcase originates from the Kuba peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Crafted from raffia fiber, Kuba textiles are celebrated for their intricate geometric patterns, bold visual rhythm, and exceptional craftsmanship. Traditionally, men wove the raffia foundation cloth while women embellished the surface with embroidered and appliqué designs, creating textiles that served both decorative and ceremonial purposes within Kuba society.
The pillowcase features the distinctive abstract motifs for which Kuba textiles are renowned, showcasing the creativity and artistry that have made these works highly sought after by collectors, designers, and textile enthusiasts. Its rich texture and striking pattern make it an attractive decorative accent, suitable for display in a variety of interior settings. Kuba textiles have long been valued as symbols of prestige and artistic achievement throughout the Congo region.
We do not recommend laundering textiles, and we do not accept returns of textiles that have been laundered in any manner. Even dry cleaning is too much for some of these antique textiles. For some of them, a very gentle HAND washing (NEVER MACHINE, on any setting) in cool water with a very gentle detergent works, but even then, dyes may not be colorfast and fabric may be less strong than it appears.
