Description
These extraordinary artifacts served multiple purposes as both tools and forms of traditional currency within the Kuba society. Crafted from forged iron, they were highly coveted and considered symbols of wealth and status within the community. Spearheads were used as currency for trade, ceremonial exchanges, and other important social transactions. Metal, in whatever form, has value and, particularly among traditional societies, iron had value, in that it could be converted into other forms such as a hoe, a spear point, or machete. These metal tools and weapons carried not only symbolic meaning during bride negotiations but held practical value as well. Although no longer widely used in this way, they hold immense cultural and historical significance, with many collectors and scholars studying their unique role in both African economies and cultural practices.
