Description
Well-decorated medicine funnel from the Kuba of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Kuba of the Congo, formerly Zaire, have been described as a people who cannot bear to leave a surface without ornament. Known for their masks, figures, raffia textiles, they are equally known for their carved palm wine cups and cosmetic boxes, and medicine enema funnels such as this one.
With their rich history, cultural significance, and artistic beauty, Kuba wood containers are not only functional objects but also important symbols of Kuba heritage and tradition. They offer a glimpse into the artistic sophistication and cultural richness of the Congo's indigenous peoples.
