Hand-carved wood Kusu figure with distinct body markings and influence from their Songye and Hemba neighbors. This unique, male figure has a carved beard, belly button, bent knees, and metal nails at the crown of its head. Natural patina.
Kusu divination and magical figures usually have holes carved in either their abdomen or heads to contain the magic needed to energize the figure. Originally, these figures were used on family shrines as offerings and praises were conducted.
