Description
Leather Quiver with 7 Arrows from Southern Africa
Traditional Southern African leather quiver containing a group of hand-crafted arrows with forged iron tips and feather fletching. The cylindrical quiver is formed from thick hide and fitted with a leather carrying strap, showing rich surface patina and wear consistent with age and use. The arrows feature long wooden shafts with hand-forged metal points, including barbed hunting tips designed for penetration and retention.
Quivers and arrows of this type were used by hunter-gatherer and pastoral communities throughout Southern Africa, including San and related groups, where skilled bow hunting played an essential role in daily life and survival. The strong utilitarian form and natural materials reflect generations of traditional craftsmanship.
An evocative ethnographic display piece with excellent texture, form, and historical character.
