This piece possessed a spiritual heritage with divination and played a pivotal role in Luba society. It mainly held significance with childbirth divination ceremonies. The divination plank was utilized by diviners to seek guidance and protection for pregnant women in hopes of safe childbirth. During divination sessions, the piece was placed on the ground or altar and served as a focal point for communication with spirits. Then, the diviner would interpret its position and symbolic elements to provide insights into the mother's and unborn child's health.
