Luba Figural Chief's Staff Buli Congo

A Luba chief’s staff, often referred to as a buli, is a ceremonial staff used by the Luba people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These staffs were symbols of political authority, spiritual power, and royal lineage, typically carried by chiefs, court officials, or diviners.

Many Luba staffs feature carved female figures because, in Luba culture, women symbolized wisdom, ancestry, fertility, and the spiritual connection between rulers and their ancestors.
