This mask is made on a wire frame. 16 inches tall. Late 20th Century.
The Makishi rites of initiation are performed by the Lundas and Luvales people in Northern Zimbabwe and Southern Zambia. They dress in costumes with matching masks for important ceremonies, and their dances include stilt walking.
