Description
The Moba create abstract human figure statues, ranging in sizes, for a variety of purposes. Small figures are for personal protection and are often placed on altars. These can be made from wood or iron. Medium figures, made from wood, represent an important family ancestor. These figures are placed on the house altar and given sacrificial offerings. Large figures, that are almost life sized, represent an important clan founder. These figures are placed outdoors and should protect the entire village. The Moba people live in northern Togo and along the border of Burkina Faso. The Moba are known for their hunting and fishing skills. Many Moba men will file their teeth to a sharp point to look more fearsome.
