Description
This magnificent exhibition of seventy-three treasures from the time of Pharaoh Ramesses the Great is a landmark event in the history of cultural relations between the American and Egyptian peoples. Many of these priceless objects are from the ancient city of Memphis on the Nile so it is most appropriate that they now be displayed in modern Memphis on the Mississippi. The Egyptian Antiquities Organization is proud to have accepted Mayor Richard Hackett's invitation to display these artifacts in one of America's greatest cities.
Ramesses II was one of Egypt's greatest rulers. He reigned for over sixty-six years and, because of his unprecedented building program, has made Egypt virtually an open-air museum. He is known not only for the incomparable temples at Abu Simbel, but also for the colossal statuary throughout the land including magnificent temples at Luxor, Karnak, Abydos, Pi-Ramesses and, of course, Memphis.
