Stone Anthropomorphic Figure Sudan

This unusual stone figure from Sudan depicts a highly stylized human form with a rounded head, deeply recessed facial features, and a compact, elongated body. The figure has been carved in a simplified, almost primitive manner, with an irregular surface that retains extensive natural weathering, mineral deposits, and variations in color ranging from ochre and brown to reddish tones.

The form is reminiscent of stone funerary and commemorative figures associated with the Bongo peoples of Sudan and the surrounding region, which are known for their abstracted human forms and distinctive weathered stone surfaces. While the exact cultural attribution and age of this example are uncertain, its unusual sculptural form and heavily aged surface make it an intriguing example of Sudanese stone art.
