This terracotta figure originates from the Tikar people of the Cameroon Grasslands. These clay sculptures, known as house gods, are created to embody the spirits of pygmies regarded as the region’s earliest inhabitants. The Tikar believe these ancestral spirits provide protection, fertility, and good fortune. They also call upon these house gods for support during healing rituals. The owner regularly performs sacrifices and offerings to honor and appease the spirit represented by the figure.
