Tiny 6 Layer Chevron Venetian Trade Beads 42inch
Description
Venetian Chevron beads, also known as Rosetta or star beads, are among the most iconic and collectible of all Trade Beads. Produced in Venice beginning in the late 1400s, these beads were created through a complex, multi step glassmaking process that layered different colors into a star patterned cane, then cut and polished to reveal their distinctive striped cores.
This strand features tiny 6 layer Chevron beads, a more delicate and less commonly encountered variation compared to larger, higher layer examples. Measuring approximately 42 inches in length, the strand offers a refined, intricate look while still carrying the rich history of global trade.
Chevron beads were widely exchanged throughout Africa and the Americas from the 15th through early 20th centuries, reaching peak circulation in the 1800s when Venetian workshops dominated production. In the mid 20th century, they saw renewed popularity as they were reintroduced to Western markets, becoming highly collectible and sometimes associated with the Love Beads movement of the 1960s.
Today, authentic antique Chevron strands, especially smaller finely made examples like this, are increasingly sought after for their craftsmanship, history, and enduring visual appeal.
This strand is not intended to be a ready-to-wear necklace. Although the strand can be worn "as is," the string holding it together is not durable and may break with use. For this reason, we recommend that you restring the beads before wearing them.
