Width: 2.0
Depth: 1.5
Description
A striking hand-forged blade, made in England, from the Tuareg people of the Sahara. This elegant long knife features a narrow, double-edged steel blade paired with a carved wooden handle, covered in leather, and its original stitched leather sheath in a warm red ochre tone.
Traditionally carried for both utility and personal protection, Tuareg blades are valued for their craftsmanship and cultural significance across regions of Mali and Niger.
Good vintage condition with visible age and use. Blade shows natural patina and light oxidation. Sheath exhibits wear and dryness consistent with age. Handle intact.
A distinctive and authentic addition to any collection of African arms, ethnographic art, or tribal artifacts.
Provenance: Matter Collection
From the collection of Margie and Phil Matter. Margie lived in South Africa, and later she and her husband Phil opened a gallery in Tucson. Everything in this collection was in their home for more than thirty years. Africa Direct recently bought the collection; at 95, Margie wants to share the things she has loved so much.
