Tuareg Leather Amulet Pouch or Talisman Container Niger

Description
This striking leather amulet pouch is a traditional protective object, likely originating from West Africa. Crafted from thick, hand-worked leather, the piece features a structured, elongated form with a narrow neck and suspension loop with a cord, for wearing or carrying.
The surface is decorated with incised geometric patterns and bands, giving it a richly textured, timeworn appearance. A lower panel of reddish leather adds contrast, while the base is adorned with a dense fringe of twisted leather strips, enhancing both its visual and ritual character. The inside panel pulls out to reveal pockets and more layers of leather.
Such pouches were historically used to hold protective charms, Qur’anic verses, or medicinal substances, serving as personal talismans for spiritual protection.
Repair to the top with new rope securing the pouch and stabilizing the structure.
