Vintage Mexican Indigenous Woven Sash Chiapas Maya
Width: 40.0
Description
Beautiful vintage Mexican Indigenous handwoven textile, measuring approximately 83 inches long by 9.5 inches wide. The textile is woven in a rich indigo-blue ground and decorated throughout with colorful supplementary-weft/brocaded motifs in red, green, orange, yellow, pink, and purple. The designs include stylized geometric, floral/star, and zoomorphic forms, with long blue fringe at the ends.
The narrow, elongated format is characteristic of a woven sash or ceremonial/textile band. The textile appears consistent with the Indigenous weaving traditions of Chiapas, Mexico, and may be associated with Maya textile traditions, although a specific community attribution should be considered tentative.
