A lovely pair, carved by the Zande.
The Zande are a Central African people who speak a language from the Adamawa-Ubangi branch of the Niger-Congo family. Their homeland stretches across the Nile-Congo drainage divide, with communities living in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic. They inhabit regions ranging from northern savanna to southern rainforest, landscapes well-suited for both agriculture and hunting. Today, the Zande are known for their fine craftsmanship in iron, clay, and wood. By the end of the 20th century, their population had grown to over 3.8 million.
They do stand on their own, but not very securely.
