An evocative carved wooden figure attributed to the Zigua (Zigula) people of northeastern Tanzania, likely from the Tanga region. The figure is carved in a strongly frontal, simplified style, with an oversized rounded head, large pierced eye openings, a compact torso, elongated arms and legs, and an expressive, highly stylized face.

The figure is particularly notable for its multiple strands of small beads or cord-wrapped ornament encircling the neck and waist. A small area of red material remains visible at the abdomen, possibly representing retained ritual or medicinal material. The dark, heavily worn surface, accumulated patina, and evidence of handling further contribute to its strong ritual character.

Zigua sculptural traditions of northeastern Tanzania include figures associated with initiation, ancestral or spirit representation, healing, protection, and divination. Comparable Zigua figures are frequently characterized by frontal human forms, large heads, cords or bindings, beads, and surfaces bearing evidence of applied ritual materials.
