Zulu Beaded Skirt Shangaan Style South Africa MATTER COLLECTION

Description
A vibrant example of southern African beadwork tradition, this Zulu-style beaded skirt features hand-applied glass beads arranged in rhythmic geometric patterns. The skirt is constructed as a wrap-around with colorful beadwork panels and trim that animate with color and movement.
Such skirts are traditionally worn during ceremonial occasions—particularly dances, weddings, and rites of passage—where beadwork serves not only as adornment but as a visual language communicating identity, age, and social status. The interplay of color and pattern reflects a long-standing design vocabulary within Zulu and neighboring cultural groups, including Shangaan/Tsonga influences often seen in contemporary market pieces.
This is a vintage item, and the fibers may be fragile. Not really to be worn, but great to display.
