Description
Engraved Zulu Calabash Rattle from South Africa
Traditional rattle made from a dried calabash gourd and engraved with decorative geometric patterns by Zulu artisans. Calabash rattles are commonly used in music, dance, and ceremonial performances, where they add rhythmic sound to accompany singing and movement.
Lightweight and naturally resonant, the gourd is filled with small seeds or beads that create a soft percussive sound when shaken. Both functional and decorative, these rattles reflect the rich musical and artistic traditions of Zulu culture.
