Zulu Spear with Wood Shaft 69 Inch South Africa

African Ceremonial Spear or Prestige Weapon.

The origin of this spear is unclear. Spears like this one are commonly found throughout Africa. However, the style of the faces along the pole suggests a Zulu or neighboring origin. 

Striking and unusually tall  African ceremonial spear measuring approximately 69.5 inches in length. The piece features a long, slender wooden shaft or grip fitted with forged iron elements at either end. The upper portion terminates in a dramatically elongated, leaf-shaped iron blade with a sharply pointed tip, while the lower end is fashioned as a long, narrow iron point. A small, sculpted wooden grip or transition element interrupts the shaft near its center.

The combination of its extraordinary length, carefully forged ironwork, and elegant proportions suggests an object associated with ceremonial display, prestige, or chiefly status, rather than a utilitarian hunting weapon. The dark, aged surfaces and reddish-brown oxidation contribute to its distinctive antique character.
